Dan Carrier started working at the CNJ when he was 13 years old as a paper boy - and has spent four decades writing for the newspaper.
Camden New Journal was founded in 1861 and was taken over by its reporters in 1980 becoming an independent co-operatively owned title serving the boroughs of Camden, Islington and Westminster. As the news and media landscape changes and we enter a post-truth world driven by huge tech companies, is there still a place for local, independent news, do they still have a role to play in our communities, and does it matter that so many have been lost in recent years?
Dan Carrier will talk about the past present and future of the CNJ, describing the different roles he’s had, why he spent a lifetime working for his home town newspaper - the fun, joy and sometimes tragedies, the stories he has covered and why he believes the title deserves protecting.
